So I am just about to complete my second week working for the best search company on the planet. I am now working for Lijit Networks in beautiful Louisville, Colorado. Although my previous development on the Lijit Wijit plugin for wordpress, was pre-lijit, I will continue to update and work on it via my blog. So if you are looking for instructions and download details on the Lijit wordpress plugin, just click the link “Lijit Wordpress Wijit” . All further updates will live there from now on.
Feel free to send an email if you have any problems, and make sure you head over to Lijit.com to make sure you are signed up, and that your blog is wijitized.

I am trying out some new themes, and have upgraded wordpress to the latest version. This is causing me some headaches with page load time, and some other gotchas with plugins and such. So if the site seems weird, that is normal. I hope to have everything in better shape soon.
I really like the latest theme I am playing with. By N.Design Studio, it features good looking MacOS styling, and even features a widgetized sidebar, with drag and drop re-sorting, and collapsing. Hopefully it will continue to work for me.

Check out this cool site that helps you schedule your World Cup tv viewing.
Choose a team and a time zone, and you can download an ICAL or VCS or ICS file for your calendar application. Really handy for those that won’t be in Germany to watch them in person.

Although this is not part of the normal fare found on this site, it is extremely interesting. This site mentioned on boingboing.net has some incredible translations of Newtons’ original chymistry(Alchemy) manuscripts. This is doubly interesting to me, since I am currently finishing up the Baroque Cycle 3 book series by Neal Stephenson. This series of books features Isaac Newton as one of the protagonists, and really gives some neat insight into science in the early 1700’s. The entire series is worth a read. But back to the online manuscripts, which contain some really interesting notes regarding the experiments Newton did. The Laboratory Notebook contains some really interesting/odd items including:
- Optical experiments where Newton probed the back of his eye with a bodkin(blunt needle) to see what the optical effect would be
- Descriptions of using urine to create phosphorus
- Using urine extract as a remedy for sinus congestion
The list goes on and on. The really cool thing, is that each transcribed page has been scanned, so you can see an image of the original text.

I decided to do another Gmaps mashup, since I had so much fun with the first one .
This new one is a Google Map, with a bunch of Boulder,Colorado area Bars and Restaurants listed.
The kicker here, is that you can click on a marker, and get their happy hour information.
Whether you want a glass of wine, or just some appetizers, this map helps you find what you are looking for.
Also would be helpful, it you wanted to do a bar tour/walk of shame in Boulder.

EDIT:
Here is the link to the latest and greatest version of the Google Maps Snow Report
Here is a little page I put together for an RSS feed supplied version of the Colorado Snow Report.
Click the link to see it here, or check out the static page at http://www.techniqal.com/blog/?page_id=41
NEW:I have extended this a bit. I have created a Google Maps Mashup with the snow report data.
It is still in “BETA” and a little ugly, but still neat. Check it out here
NEW:I have also taken the raw html data for this report and created a “Mobile Snow Report”. This should work fine on just about any wireless phone.
This data is collected from the RSS feed at http://www.coloradoski.com For a link to the feed, try http://feeds.feedburner.com/snowreport
To update the data, click the link again. Any updated results from the RSS feed will automatically appear.
(PS. Check out the AJAX RSS feed reader on the sidebar, to see the ‘lite’ version of this)

Looks like Level3 screwed up big time.
It seems like Level3 messed up a software upgrade in Chicago.
Isn’t it nice to know that one person can accidentally effect internet access for a large part of the world?
Also, looks like journalists are trolling for information on this is well.
Time to sell your stock in Level3.

Check out this new blog by my friend Tony–
Tony has some very interesting ideas about where the internet/software world should go, and how it will get there.
ie, AJAX, allowing web developers to mimic the desktop experience .
Check it out.

Welcome to the new(and hopefully) last revision of this site. I moved to new software to make it a little easier on me. This way, I can actually add content in a timely manner. Enjoy, and don’t forget to check out the photo albums.
